Plans for Expansion: Electronic Calibration

So much of what we do at Grand Rapids Metrology is due to the needs of our customers. Listening and responding to our customers has kept us in business for almost 100 years! Recently, we had existing customers ask us if we could calibrate their electronic instruments, since we were already calibrating other equipment of theirs, it made sense for them to look to us. Unable to meet the demand and having ran into the problem more than once, GRM decided to seriously look into becoming A2LA accredited in electronic calibrations.

Gaining accreditations from A2LA is no easy task. As one of the strictest accreditation bodies in the business, A2LA accreditations are more difficult to attain but more beneficial for our customers. This is because they are the largest U.S. based, multi-discipline accreditation body. Likewise, A2LA works in accordance with standards published by International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has done so for 30 years! The decision to expand our scope to include electronics was made after much discussion with our employees and research into A2LA requirements, for we wanted to be confident this was the right move for us and our customers. The operation began back in October 2015. As of May 2016, we are approximately 25% done with the process of becoming accredited, however we project to achieve the accreditations by October of 2016. If your company does not require accredited calibrations, we are currently able to provide NIST traceable calibrations of the electronics equipment listed below.

Below is the list of electronics Grand Rapids Metrology will be able to calibrate once we receive our A2LA certification:

  • Clamp-on Ammeters
  • Current Shunts
  • Decade Resistors
  • Frequency Counters
  • Function/Waveform Generators
  • Hipot Testers
  • Loop Calibrators
  • Megger/Megohmmeters
  • Milliohmmeters
  • Multimeters
  • Oscilloscopes
  • Panel Meters
  • Power Supplies
  • Process Calibrators
  • RTD Simulators
  • Scope Meter DMMS
  • Stop Watches/Timers
  • Strobeoscopes
  • Tachometers

One of our paramount goals here at Grand Rapids Metrology is be a single-source vendor for our customers. Expanding into electronics calibrations allows us to take a huge step towards achieving that objective. Our calibration lab members have been working extensively on securing our accreditations and we are certain this expansion will be truly valuable to our customers come October. If you have any question of our upcoming electronic calibration certifications, please do not hesitate to contact us, we’re here for you!

Curious as to why Grand Rapids Metrology chooses A2LA as our sole accreditation body? Stay tune for next Wednesday’s blog post where we will examine what A2LA is and why it’s important!
